The world wide web is full of information, and especially in the web3 world, where the information never stops, we decided to give a little birthday recap of the last 12 months, for the digital as well as the physical parts.
The beginnings…
In May 2021, the first NEAR Hackathon took place. NEAR received a lot of awesome submissions with the goal of onboarding more creatives into the ecosystem. In the meantime, in the countryside of Portugal, two creatives decided that it was the right time to create a cultural cell. Somewhere where artists could receive support, with the possibility to connect with other like-minded humans. The chance to organise physical events in nature, and a way for the community to get involved. Both the hackathon as well as the urge to support artists could not have been timed better.
An idea for a record label with a social governance token was submitted, and muti was born.
Blending the physical with the digital
Thanks to NEAR and its welcoming of the creative community, muti has been able to grow and distribute funding to other artists, support them when recording studio sessions, creating artworks, as well as organising regular online streams in the Metaverse. On the digital side of muti, the DAO wants to enable creatives to discover and use the tools of web3 in their own field of creativity. Be it through virtual galleries, NFT revenues, creative bounties, or virtual exhibitions.
It started with weekly streams in Cryptovoxels, in a parcel that was rented by muti from the Marma J Foundation, who have been incredibly supportive since the beginning. Since then, muti has built its own space in NEARhub, which resembles the vision of the DAO and collective: organic and natural vibes, whilst showing digital artworks and concerts. The NEARhub team did a great job on creating this space and streams are currently running twice per month.
The Mutiverse In NEARhub
Since its foundation, muti has collaborated with several other DAOs to create projects (Nxm, CUDO, Marma J Foundation, Black Cat Cinema, Mãe Solteira, Garden Collective, and INA Dao, Incubadora DAO, LENS Dao, Lisbon City Node) and it does not stop there!
Besides the web3 involvement, muti also has a very tangible side.
The previous season started with the event series “Cabeça Na Lua” with an intriguing concept: 3 concerts, one changing local artist, happening under the stars and far out of the urban area. The first event was recorded and streamed into the Metaverse and the NFTs are now available in the NxM Mintbase store, the second one will happen in an old convent on the 28th of May in Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal.
You can find more info about the upcoming event here and find the last concerts here.
The collective also organised two artistic residencies: “Planta A Palavra” in Sertã and “The Fool’s Journey” in Parede. Both times artists of different disciplines were invited to spend one week together and create in a collaborative environment. All artists and participants of the production team were boarded into the NEAR ecosystem whilst creating a very physical experience.
The participating artists have been diving deeper into the ecosystem ever since, becoming part of other projects and even creating their own DAOs. This way, through the help of the muti team, several other DAOs have come to life and are now active in the ecosystem, collaborating not only with muti but also with other creative DAOs. Connections are more valuable and fruitful than the competition!
As the pandemic seems to slowly fade away in Portugal, it is possible to finally run physical events again. From May until September muti will organise one event each month, in collaboration with other DAOs and collectives, in nature and surrounded by the green, including visual arts as well as music, and always with the twist of using the web3 tools in the physical world. Besides that, the digital side will keep running, of course, with online streams, supporting artistic projects, and diving into the world of NFTs.
To give a little hint for the next couple of months: get ready for sound in between cacti, a festival installation, a famous painter, and redeemable NFTs in our Mintbase store!
Obstacles? — Challenges!
What started as a jump into the cold water holding one idea, ended up becoming a flourishing project, through which all participants have been able to learn and develop new skills as well as realise ideas that have been in the back of their heads for a long time.
After one year, the muti crew is now redefining the structure and path of the DAO and collective, always thinking of the bigger picture: supporting artists, nurturing creativity, and using web3 tools to make it all possible, while preferably sitting in the green of nature.
With the growth of the project, it is time to think about setting up a legal entity and how to make the digital tools more tangible while supporting creatives. Besides the monthly events in the metaverse and the physical world, muti is also creating an NFT store on Mintbase which will sell redeemables to be picked up at the events, creating a branch for an artistic agency and thinking of ways to become more self-sustainable.
Keep your eyes open for the next events and supported projects, and if you’re in Portugal, come join us for some cultural events in the “natureza”!
